In 2004, Francis Fukuyama, a noted political scientist and author, wrote a piece for Foreign Policy labeling transhumanism as the “world’s most dangerous idea”.
Short-sighted as Fukuyama has proven himself to be in the past, he is absolutely correct that transhumanism is a dangerous idea. But it’s a dangerous idea in the tradition of so many others in science and philosophy. Just as heliocentrism and democracy were once dangerous ideas that shook the world to its core, so too is transhumanism. For some, the prospect of danger is cause for avoidance, but others can see the promise of progress.
This blog, Dangerous Ideas, is devoted to transhumanism in all its aspects. Whether you’re interested in the news, philosophy, politics, science, or even just media depictions of transhumanism, you will be able to find it here. In keeping with the openness of transhumanism itself, the contents and material of this site will be kept simple and intellectually accessible to everyone.
